Vince McMahon Returns
The return of Vince McMahon to WWE was just a matter of time; once he announced his “retirement” after the allegations made against him, many realized that Vince McMahon was still the majority shareholder of WWE making it possible for him to return and as expected, that was the case. The future of WWE is now very open.
With the return of Vince McMahon to WWE, the stock of the biggest wrestling promotion in the world went up because of the possibility of Vince McMahon once and for all selling WWE. There are several suitors out there to acquire WWE, like: Saudi Arabia, Netflix, Disney, Comcast and Endeavor (UFC’s parent company). The favorite to acquire WWE is with no doubt Comcast, they already have WWE content on their streaming platform, Peacock, and RAW is the flagship show of USA network, acquiring WWE is the logical move and the cheaper one in the long term.
The return of McMahon to WWE was somewhat similar to something we would see on an episode of the HBO series Succession, and the parallels between both the current situation of WWE and the show Succession are quite fascinating. Vince McMahon implied that if he didn’t return to WWE, he would make it hard to approve any new TV deal, and as we know by now those TV deal is where WWE makes most of their revenue these days. By this, WWE had no choice but to accept the return of Vince McMahon to the board.
The return of Vince McMahon also puts into doubt the future of several wrestlers in WWE, especially those who were fired last time under his regimen but returned under Paul Levesque. If Vince McMahon actually plans to sell WWE, massive releases will be made, or even after the Acquistion is made by the new owners to low costs on their new IP. Even if McMahon doesn’t want to sell, the possibility of mass releases is high with him back in charge.
The future of Paul Levesque, Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan in WWE also comes into question with Vince’s return. Some hints indicate that they were the ones that advised Vince on retiring after the allegations made against him, but months later, it was reported that Vince McMahon left that the advice made by the trio Levesque-McMahon-Khan was actually a bad one, according to Vince McMahon and that he was planning to return, as we saw in the couple of days ago, Vince has return.
Some reports indicate that Vince McMahon wants to return as head of creative of the main roster, a position currently occupied by Paul Levesque. A of this moment, we don’t know if Vince McMahon will actually follow through this and just keep an executive rol. It’s very likely that McMahon will want his position of booker of WWE back, and, this goes back to the possible releases of wrestlers that returned under Levesque’s regimen.
While Vince McMahon’s return is linked to WWE being sold to the highest bidder, there’s the possiblity of McMahon not wanting to sell at all and used it as an excuse to come back, which is the most likely scenario, if we think about it. Vince McMahon has never been open to selling and he realized that using the motive of selling as a window to return was the move.
