Shawn Michaels back in the 90s was a completely different person compared to who he is now. Michaels’ backstage antics and insufferable personality is well-documented by now.
In fact, Vince McMahon claimed that Michaels owes his life to Triple H. The two drifted apart when Michaels went away after sustaining a back injury that forced him to retire from in-ring competition in 1998.
Michaels was once wasted and attended a WWE show. During the show, he had a legitimate backstage fight with Triple H in front of the locker room. While speaking on DX’s Biography episode, Triple H discussed the backstage fight.
“After he takes his time off, just intermittent in and out of Shawn, but he’s still a mess. We were nowhere near as close as we were before. There comes a moment where it’s getting worse and worse and it’s the night that Vince buys WCW. We all go into an office to watch this go down. Just as it’s about to happen, in walks Shawn, who is just a mess, it’s just embarssing. Everybody else goes to Vince, ’embarrasing, he shouldn’t be here.’ Shawn comes out of that conversation and in front of everybody in that locker room, we went at it”
Triple H
Shawn Michaels would eventually overcome his demons and turned a new leaf, becoming a born-again Christian and righting a lot of wrongs that he had made in the past. He credited Triple H for never abandoning him and helping him out throughout the years. The two are great friends now and that’s all that matters.
