Deonna Purrazzo Talks Knockouts Title Bout At Rebellion, Future Goals

Deonna Purrazzo has a Knockouts Title shot this Sunday at the Rebellion Pay Per View in Toronto.

At their recent IMPACT x NJPW Multiverse United, which took place on Thursday, March 30th, Purrazzo earned a spot in the IMPACT Knockouts World Title match at IMPACT Rebellion by defeating Miyu Yamashita, Gisele Shaw, and Masha Slamovich in a four-way match. She nailed Gisele Shaw with the Queen’s Gambit and gained the pinfall over her.

As of right now, it will be Deonna Purrazzo and Jordynne Grace competing for the Knockouts World Title belt at Rebellion. Mickie James is the current champion, and hurt with a rib injury, but there should be more clarity on her status this week on the IMPACT show. If Mickie can compete then the match will become a triple threat match; if not, Mickie will relinquish the title and it will be Deonna and Jordynne Grace competing for the title.

Purrazzo and Steve Maclin were jointly interviewed by Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, and they were asked their opinions as to which one of them won’t win their title match at IMPACT Rebellion.

“Well, it’s also a possibility that it’s not a triple threat. So the odds are not in my favor in terms of not knowing what my match is going to be going in there. I’ll only have three days to prepare. Then, if it is a triple threat, I don’t actually have to lose to lose. So I think the odds are in my husband’s favor,” Purrazzo said.

Deonna mentioned that Grace has never defeated her, but also that she’s never beaten Mickie. Deonna defeated Jordynne Grace at Slammiversary in 2020 to become the IMPACT Knockouts World Champion for the very first time.

“I had said last night on IMPACT as well that Jordynne Grace has never defeated the Virtuosa Deonna Purrazzo, but the Virtuosa has never defeated Mickie James. So the dynamic here in who comes out the victor, if it is a three way, is very interesting. Unless Mickie pins Jordynne, then we’ve seen that, but if Jordynne beats me or I beat Mickie, this is a first time thing. This is history making for the three of us and our dynamic. So I think that whichever way it swings—triple threat, singles match—it’s interesting. Jordynne Grace and I haven’t even been in a singles match since our last, which was the first ever Knockouts Iron Man match. So I would love for it to be a singles match because she’s my favorite opponent. She’s one of my favorite people. I just think that it’s going to be very interesting if we get to revisit that, what we put out there and what the outcome ends up being,” Purrazzo said.

Deonna also recently spoke to Mark Hoke on the Mark Hoke Show, and was asked what her goals are for the next five years.

“I just got married (to Steve Maclin), I definitely want to be a mom one day. That is kind of what my long-term goal is. In wrestling, I want to feel like I’ve done everything before I take a leave of absence and go be a mom. Specifically at IMPACT, for the Knockouts, there is a legacy. We continue to get opportunities to push boundaries and have the first-ever Knockouts Ultimate X match that Tasha Steelz won at Hard To Kill 2022, that same night we had the first-ever Knockouts World Championship pay-per-view (main event), myself and Mickie James, in the first-ever Texas Deathmatch. Mickie was in the second-ever pay-per-view main event against Jordynne Grace when she won the Knockouts World Championship. We’re continuing to get these opportunities, but it’s not as frequent as I would like. I want to see women main event all the time. I want it to be a regular thing. With that, not just because we’re women, but because we’re telling stories that warrant us getting the main event. In terms of what I’d like to do is be able to tell another incredible story similar to what I did to Mickie James and become a three-time Knockouts World Champion. That’s my ultimate goal in the next year. After that, it’s being able to settle down and be like, ‘I’m comfortable with where I’m at in wrestling’ and see what real life has for me. I’m in college, I graduate in July, there is some real life stuff going on that I’m really focused on and excited for in my future,” she said.

Deonna could potentially become a 3x IMPACT Knockouts World Champion at Rebellion.
