Austin Theory had his work cut out for him during WWE Backlash, as he defended his WWE United States Championship vs Bronson Reed and Bobby Lashley in a brutal triple threat match.
Early on, Bronson and Theory would work together but the alliance did not last long as Bronson flattened the champion. Soon, the two big boys would begin clashing, much to the delight of the Puerto Rico crowd. A fun sequence began with a Hurt Lock to the champion which ended with Lashley being hit with The Tsunami, however Theory would break the pin up.
Theory would try to hit A Town Down on Reed but would fail to hit the move. Reed would then go for an incredible moonsault, but would miss. When he returned to his feet, he was met with a brutal spear from Bobby Lashley. The champion would then throw Lashley out of the ring and covered Bronson for the victory to retain the United States title.
