Mercedes Mone was in significant talks with AEW prior to her ankle injury.
Per Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, multiple sources close to Khan confirmed that “there were significant discussions” with Mone prior to her injury. Tony Khan has previously stated that only he and Mercedes know what plans they had been putting together for the event.
Mone would lose the NJPW STRONG Women’s Title tournament in the finals due to her injury, losing to AEW’s Willow Nightingale in the finals.
We will have to wait and see if Mone and AEW can come to an agreement in the future regarding a possible appearance once she returns from injury.
