The New Japan Pro-Wrestling G1 Climax 33 got underway on July 15th with it’s opening night at the Hokkaido Prefectural Sports Center Hokkai Kitayell in Sapporo, Japan. Night 1 of G1 Climax 33 action featured matches from the A and B Block of the tournament. Every match will have a 20 minutes time limit. For each win participants receive 2 points, for each draw 1 point and zero points for a loss.
The main event for G1 Climax 33 saw the current IWGP SANADA defeat a tough Hikuleo to earn two points.
The current IWGP US Champion Will Ospreay went down in defeat in the opening night as he lost to Taichi in a thrilling match.
Pro Wrestling NOAH’s Kaito Kiyomiya earned his first two points of the tournament as he defeated Yota Tsuji in one of the more anticipated matches of the card.

- Main Event: A Block Match: SANADA defeated Hikuleo (SANADA 2 pts)
- B Block Match: Taichi defeated Will Ospreay (Taichi 2 pts)
- A Block Match: Kaito Kiyomiya defeated Yota Tsuji (Kaito Kiyomiya 2 pts)
- B Block Match: Kazuchika Okada defeated Great-O-Khan (Kazuchika Okada 2 pts)
- A Block Match: Shota Umino vs Ren Narita ended in a draw (Shota Umino 1 pt, Ren Narita 1 pt)
- B Block Match: Tanga Loa defeats KENTA (Tanga Loa 2 pts)
- A Block Match: Chase Owens defeats Gabriel Kidd (Chase Owens 2 pts)
- B Block Match: YOSHI-HASHI defeats El Phantasmo (YOSHI-HASHI 2pts)
