AEW Collision: 7/22/2023 Preview

At the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, AEW Collision brings the fallout of many things, some in the ring and some outside of it. Whether it’s real life romance problems (probably), the finals of the Owen Hart Cup, the finals of the Blind Eliminator Tag Team Tournament, or of failed aspirations of gold, there’s a lot to be invested in on a great weekend of wrestling.

With that said, let’s get started shall we?

House of Black (c) vs The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn (AEW Trios Championship)

Oh boy, this isn’t going to be pretty, isn’t it? I mean, yeah, the House of Black will probably eviscerate the trio with some effort on Daddy Ass, but I don’t trust Max Caster to not roast Buddy Matthews again. Poor Buddy, always catching strays these days. The rap is going to be hilarious and foul, and the match is going to be energetic, even if short.

We Hear from Ricky Starks

Ricky Starks, hot off his win in the Owen Hart Cup finals against CM Punk is ready to talk his talk about finally winning where it counted (aside from the FTW Championship because it matters to me dammit). Whether he lies in the realm of babyface, heel, or the grey in between (wouldn’t that be the torso?), I’d imagine CM Punk will have words to say, perhaps removing the AEW logo from the microphone as he does so. Maybe he’ll do that thing where he puts emphasis in his consonants.

We Hear from FTR

From two incredible matches against Bullet Club Gold to an upcoming match against Adam Cole and MJF, Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler have momentum on their side. With their serious nature juxtaposed with the hilarious and endearing budding friendship betwixt Adam Cole and MJF, I’m eager to see how well both teams bump off of each other.

Bullet Club Gold vs Action Andretti & Darius Martin

Speaking of, Jay White and Juice Robinson keep the wheels on a-turnin’ as they collide with high flying indie friends, Andretti and Martin. This will be short but no doubt exhilarating, a match meant for Jay White to breathe his frustrations and intentions on the microphone whereas Juice will probably scream to reiterate his calm brethren. None of it will be about Honey Combs though. Real ones know.

Taya Valkyrie vs Skye Blue

No doubt brimming with anguish over another title loss, Taya Valkyrie may be set on a rampage soon, and who else but someone also deterred, Skye Blue? Of course, the baseball cap wearing pyromaniac is no slouch either as she gets progressively better each week. Fans are digging Blue, and she’s going viral for reasons, so this may be a good way to add some heat to Taya if she lashes out if this isn’t just some obligatory placeholder for things to come.

There we have it, friends. While not explosive as the past few episodes, this episode should still be a blast. The stories are still being told and the vibes are still immaculate depending on who you ask. I’m looking forward to it!
