Why AEW Took International Title Off Rey Fenix, Plans For Jon Moxley To Win Title Back Were In Place This Week

Jon Moxley was scheduled to regain the AEW International Championship this week.

Shortly before AEW Dynamite: Title Tuesday went on the air this week, Jon Moxley was taken out of action by his previous concussion that he suffered at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam.

Orange Cassidy would fill in, and he would end up defeating Fenix to regain the championship he lost back at AEW All Out.

Fightful Select now reports that Moxley was scheduled to take the title back before he was ruled out of Tuesday’s show, while Fenix will be off TV due to visa issues for the next little while.

Jon Moxley was never originally slated to lose the AEW International Title to Rey Fenix, but was sidelined with an injury, and an audible was called mid-match during their September bout. However, there were tentative plans within All Elite Wrestling to get the title back on Jon Moxley for the October 10 episode of AEW Dynamite. Unfortunately, the day of the show, Jon Moxley was not cleared and was replaced by Orange Cassidy. Cassidy would go on to win the International Title. Although he wasn’t considered for it in the days or weeks prior, we’ve learned that likely whoever would have been booked against Rey Fenix likely would have won the title. According to sources close to him, Fenix is facing visa issues that will have him out of action on AEW TV. We aren’t sure the length, but the decision was made to move the International Title that was never set to be on him in the first place.

We will have to wait and see if the title will return to Jon Moxley’s shoulder when he is cleared to return to the ring.
