Exclusive: Update On WWE’s Plans To Abandon Yeet Trademark

To Yeet, or not to Yeet? That is truly the question right now.

As we saw on this week’s episode of WWE Monday Night RAW, Jey Uso dropped his “Yeet” catchphrase after it was reported that WWE no longer planned to use the term due to the company encountering trademarking issues.

A report from @WrestleVotes on Monday stated, “As evident on RAW just now, I’m told WWE has found trademark issues with Jey Uso’s “Yeet.” The word & merchandising will no longer be associated with Uso going forward.” However, despite WWE deciding to have Jey stop using the word Yeet, and no longer having him wear the Yeet shirt to the ring, WWE hasn’t removed the shirt from WWE Shop and is still advertising it on social media. Currently, the shirt is said to be “out of stock” but has not been pulled from the store.

The trademark issues with Jey Uso’s “Yeet” that WWE has encountered is a simple one, the trademark was already owned by Kasey Huffman, an independent pro wrestler out of West Virginia. Huffman has actually owned the trademark rights for the word “Yeet” since 2021

I asked sources within WWE about the situation surrounding the Yeet trademark and whether the company had completely abandoned the catchphrase and merchandise, and was told that “There is a legal claim against Yeet. WWE Lawyers are discussing it.” So, there may be hope yet for Yeet to stick around, as WWE hasn’t completely abandoned it, but has more or less suspended the usage while WWE Lawyers discuss all of the company’s options.

We will keep you updated if we hear anything more about WWE’s trademarking issues with Jey Uso’s Yeet catchphrase and merchandise or plans for the Superstar going forward.
