Vince McMahon Issues Statement on Resignation: Says He’s Innocent, Stepping Down ‘Out of Respect For WWE Universe’
Vince McMahon has maintained his innocence despite tendering his resignation.
Earlier tonight, WWE President, Nick Khan sent a statement to the company’s staff members, announcing that Vince McMahon has stepped down from his roles in TKO and WWE.
The now-former TKO and WWE Chairman issued a statement of his own to Deadline and says he’s innocent but stepping down out of respect for WWE’s fans and superstars.
“I stand by my prior statement that Ms. Grant’s lawsuit is replete with lies, obscene made-up instances that never occurred, and is a vindictive distortion of the truth. I intend to vigorously defend myself against these baseless accusations, and look forward to clearing my name.
“However, out of respect for the WWE Universe, the extraordinary TKO business and its board members and shareholders, partners and constituents, and all of the employees and Superstars who helped make WWE into the global leader it is today, I have decided to resign from my executive chairmanship and the TKO board of directors, effectively immediately.”

On Thursday, January 25, the Wall Street Journal revealed a lawsuit against TKO Chairman Vince McMahon, stemming from the alleged sexual assault and trafficking of former WWE employee, Janel Grant.
In addition to McMahon, former WWE Champion, Brock Lesnar (indirectly), and former Head of Talent Relations, John Laurinaitis were also implicated in the lawsuit.
