Goldberg: Before I Signed With WCW, I Had An Offer From WWE And It Expired Within 24 Hours
Bill Goldberg recalls the time he got a call from the WWE.
One of the biggest WCW stars and at the peak of his run at the time, Goldberg was an undefeated powerhouse who won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship during the Money Night Wars.
During his appearance on the Nothing Left Unsaid podcast with Tim Green, he was in a conversation. Goldberg recalls using an early offer from the WWE to open the door for him at World Championship Wrestling.
“I specifically remember the phone call where I picked up the phone, I had an offer on the table from the WWE. It expired within 24 hours and I called Eric Bischoff and I said, ‘I don’t want to be cocky, I don’t want to be an asshole, but if I’m going to do this, I’m going to make a difference and I’m going to be somebody and I’m not going to be one of those $500 throw around the ring dudes that you forget about.’ That was my statement. The door opened. All I needed was a door open and I did my work,” he said.
Goldberg would also go on to sign with the WWE where he won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and the WWE Universal Championship in his first and second run with the company.
