We have sad news to report today, as Reginald Folks who was training to become a wrestler and was a Lyft driver was killed by Koby Minor, an ex cop. Folks was a wrestler for the WWA4 promotion
Fox Atlanta reports that Koby Minor has been charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection to the death of a ride-share driver. He waived his first court appearance on Thursday. The Atlanta Police Department reported that Minor was arrested on May 15 by the Union City Police Department. He has since been denied bond.
Union City PD stated that officers responded to a shooting call around 12:40 a.m. near South Fulton Parkway and Stonewall Tell Road. Upon arrival, they found an unresponsive male who succumbed to his injuries. The incident report for Minor revealed that the police officer was lying on his stomach in a surrendering position when police arrived at the scene.
Minor told police that a ride-share driver had picked him up at an Atlanta police officer’s home. As they traveled east on SR 14, the driver began talking on the phone in an unknown language. Minor claimed he thought he heard another voice in his ear but did not specify what the voice said.
He asked the driver to stop the car, but the driver did not comply. When the car finally stopped at a red light at Stonewall Tell Road, Minor tried to unlock and open the door, but it would not open. Minor stated that the driver then turned around and attempted to reach into the back seat. Minor could not see the driver’s other hand and, fearing for his safety, reached for his gun and fired approximately three rounds. After firing the shots, he broke the window and got out of the vehicle.
Before the police arrived, Minor waved down another driver for help. He told this person that the Lyft driver was trying to recruit him into a gay fraternity and that he believed he was being kidnapped. He also mentioned that he had shot the ride-share driver in the head.
The victim was identified as Reginald Folks, a resident of East Point. His mother, Marchelle Folks, expressed her grief and confusion, stating she had not talked to the police since the shooting and had many questions about what happened. She learned from an article that a police officer was involved in her son’s death.
Reginald Folks moved to Atlanta in 2007 to attend Clark Atlanta University and pursued his passion for wrestling on the professional circuit. He trained at a facility in South Fulton. His trainer and fellow wrestlers expressed their devastation and confusion over his death.
Lyft issued a statement expressing their condolences to Folks’ loved ones and stated their readiness to assist law enforcement in the investigation. They have permanently banned Minor’s account from the Lyft community.
The Atlanta Police Department confirmed that Minor resigned immediately following his arrest. He had been hired in 2018 and was on unpaid administrative leave at the time of the shooting due to a previous arrest on drug-related charges in December 2023. Minor is currently being held at the Fulton County Jail.
