WWE Raw Review (July 8th)

WWE aired Raw live in Ottawa Ontario Canada.

Kicking off this week’s Raw with a recap of Money In The Bank.

CM Punk says it’s a great night to be in Ottawa then says he has a lot to get off his chest. He thanks John Cena on his impending retirement from in ring action and says while he doesn’t know what the future holds, he hopes to share the ring one more time with him. He then says Cena isn’t here but neither is Drew McIntyre due to his suspension. He throws it over to a video showing McIntyre hijacking the Money In The Bank post show and attacking referees and Adam Pearce.

Punk says there are consequences to actions and says this isn’t the 1st time McIntyre messed things up. He says that he is the consequences to McIntyre’s actions and says McIntyre was unable to keep his promise to walk out of Money In The Bank as World Heavyweight Champion. Punk says he made a promise to keep that from happening but unlike McIntyre, he kept his promise. He reveals he was fined $25,000 for what he did at Money In The Bank but says McIntyre was fined $50,000. He demands Adam Pearce lift McIntyre’s suspension so he can get his hands on him, no matter if it’s a match, in the ring, in the parking lot or in the crowd.

Seth Rollins’ music hits and he makes his way down to the ring. He sees Punk sitting with Michael Cole & Pat McAfee at the announce desk and says he wants to sit on the sidelines now. He invites Punk to get in the ring and mocks him by asking if he’s afraid that he’s going to beat him. Punk slowly gets in the ring and reminds him of what happened the last time they were in the ring together. He tells Rollins to watch what he says next.

Rollins asks Punk why actions have consequences for everyone except for Punk himself. He asks Punk why he stuck his nose in his business and Punk clarifies that he was handling his business rather than Rollins’ business. He says he would think Rollins would understand as a husband and a father and says that he will get his pound of flesh with McIntyre running around wearing his bracelet with his wife and dog’s names on it. He apologizes to Rollins, but says that he can’t be that sorry.

Rollins tells Punk that he always has an excuse, and says that he’s simply gaslighting. He says Punk has never apologized for anything in his life but he’s the dumbest smart dude he’s met in his entire life. He says he was willing to let Punk’s selfishness slide until Saturday when he cost him the World Heavyweight Title. He says that being World Heavyweight Champion is the most important thing to him in the wrestling business then says that now it’s time to take something from Punk like he did to him. He promises to keep Punk from taking his pound of flesh from McIntyre then says when Punk is cleared, he won’t be able to say Drew McIntyre before he puts him back on the shelf. He reminds Punk that actions have consequences then heads to the back.

Backstage Adam Pearce spoke with Dominik Mysterio and asked him what his problem was. Dom said he didn’t want to team up with Liv Morgan. Pearce recalled Mysterio sticking his nose in the last few Women’s World Title matches and told him the Mixed Tag Team match was on.

Liv Morgan shows up after Pearce made his exit. Morgan said she felt so bad about what happened last week that she wanted to make it up to him by helping him show who the real daddy of the Mysterio family is. Mysterio said fine but she better make sure they win. Morgan said they should go talk strategy and get ready for their match

Jey Uso vs. Chad Gable

Match starts off with a lock up before Jey fires off a few right hands on Chad Gable but Gable hits a mat return on him.

Jey dumps Gable out of the ring and looks to land a tope suicida but Gable catches him and hits a belly 2 belly suplex as we go to a break.

After the break Gable ascends to the top rope and hits a diving headbutt to Jey then goes for a pin but Jey kicks out.

Gable sends Jey crashing into the top turnbuckle then sends him crashing over the top rope and to the outside.

He hits a tope suicida to Gable and gets him back in the ring then ascends to the top rope and hits a splash. Jey fires off right hands on Gable and connects with an enzuigiri.

He follows it up with a hip attack in the corner and climbs back up to the top rope but Gable trips him and cinches in an Ankle Lock.

The lights go out, capturing Gable’s attention so Jey takes advantage and lands a spear for the win.

Winner: Jey Uso

After the match Jey quickly retreats to the back as the lights continue to go out. Smoke fills the ring and the Wyatt Sicks’ music begins playing. Sister Abigail appears and Gable backs away from her. He slides out of the ring and retreats up the ramp. Abigail then hands a box over to Michael Cole.

Backstage Sheamus told Jackie Redmond that what they watched was weird. Redmond said they hoped to get clarification on what was in the box. Redmond congratulated Sheamus on 15 years in WWE. Sheamus said it took almost that long to understand the business.

Bronson Reed showed up and said they shouldn’t be celebrating Sheamus’s anniversary when he lost. Reed said he was the one with a match and called himself the future. Sheamus said that if Reed has been watching his career for the last 15 years then he should know what happens when you interrupt him. Reed said he would fight Sheamus but not tonight. Reed said Sheamus could watch what he does to his mate Pete Dunne as we go to a break.

After the break Michael Cole had Pat McAfee open the box that Nikki Cross left & the box contained a VHS tape. Cole passed it off to a production crew member so the person could take it to the production truck.

Pete Dunne vs. Bronson Reed

Match starts off with a lock up then Bronson Reed clocks Pete Dunne then gets him up on his shoulders.

Dunne escapes by locking in an Arm bar on Reed then lands an enzuigiri on him then flies over the top rope and lands a forearm.

Dunne follows it up with a moonsault off the ring apron and a 2nd one off the ropes as we go to a break.

After the break Reed lands a clothesline on Dunne and looks to follow it up with a senton.

Dunne rolls out of the way to avoid it then stomps on Reed’s fingers and lands a kick on the side of his head.

He follows it up with a pair of step up enzuigiris and a running knee, then goes for a pin but Reed kicks out. Dunne stomps on Reed’s tricep then fires off stomps on his neck and connects with a Buckle Bomb.

He then hits a sit out powerbomb and pins Dunne but Dunne kicks out.

Reed ascends to the top rope but Dunne catches him with another step up enzuigiri and snaps his fingers.

Reed fights off Dunne and lands Tsunami for the win.

Winner: Bronson Reed

After the match Reed drags Dunne over to the corner and looks to land another Tsunami. Before he can Sheamus’ music hits and he runs down to the ring to give Dunne a helping hand. He begins brawling with Reed & Dunne rocks Reed with a running knee. Sheamus then lands Brogue Kick on Reed and looks to hug Dunne but Dunne pulls away from him and hops out of the ring still angry about the way in which Brawling Brutes ended.

Backstage Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn was walking backstage when he met up with Awesome Truth & Braun Strowman as we go to a break.

After the break World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest was talking with Judgement Day when Seth Rollins showed up and said he wanted to talk. Priest send Judgment Day on their way. Rollins said it’s better to be lucky than good. Rollins said Priest was very lucky and he was very good at Money In The Bank.

Rollins said he appreciated that Priest kept his word by not having Judgment Day interfere. Rollins said he would keep his word by not going after the title while Priest holds it. Rollins said that as good as Priest was on Saturday, he will need to be better at SummerSlam.

Priest stops Rollins from leaving. He said he kept his word and he knows Rollins would keep his. Priest said he still has a lot to prove. He said that they could throw the gentlemen’s agreement out the window.

Priest said that once he’s finished with Gunther, he would go to war with Rollins and all Rollins had to do was name the place. Rollins offered Priest a handshake which Priest accepted. Rollins left then Priest took a call and asked the person on the other end where they were.

Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn says that Bron Breakker brought everything in their Intercontinental Title on Saturday but he made the crucial mistake of thinking he was the underdog in the match. He says he’s not an underdog anymore because he’s a champion then says he’s been putting in top level performances night in and night out and year in and year out. He says he’s earned respect in the ring and Breakker learned that there’s a difference between knocking him down and keeping him down.

Breakker’s music hits and he makes his way down to the ring. Zayn asks Breakker why he’s in the ring and Breakker stays silent. He stares down Zayn before Zayn hands him over the mic he’s holding and says he came down to the ring to look the only man that’s beaten him in the eye. He admits he didn’t think Zayn would be the first person on the main roster to beat him and says he’s been thinking. He then drops the mic and surprises Zayn with a spear. He rains down right hands on him and officials run down to pry Breakker off Zayn. Officials escort Breakker to the back but Breakker breaks free and hits a 2nd spear to Zayn. Ilja Dragunov then appears on the ramp to confront Breakker and check on Zayn.

After the break Sami Zayn was shown selling his ribs in the trainer’s room while Ilja Dragunov told Adam Pearce that he wants a match with Breakker. Pearce made the match for later in the show.

6 Man Tag Team Match
Judgement Day (World Tag Team Champions JD McDonagh & Finn Balor & Carlito) vs. Awesome Truth (The Miz & R Truth) & Braun Strowman

Judgment Day attacks Awesome Truth from behind before Braun Strowman marches down to the ring but Strowman chases them around the ring and sends Carlito crashing into the barricade.

Awesome Truth catches Finn Balor & JD McDonagh with a pair of Attitude Adjustments before Carlito is tossed into the ring and the bell sounds.

R Truth beats him down and hits a 5 Knuckle Shuffle then follows it up with an Attitude Adjustment then goes for a pin but Balor breaks the fall as we go to a break.

After the break McDonagh lands a leg drop on The Miz then Balor becomes legal and levels Miz before McDonagh tags back in and lands an elbow drop on Miz.

He clocks Truth on the apron then tags in Strowman & Strowman tosses McDonagh across the ring then lands a splash on Carlito. He looks to land one on McDonagh but McDonagh moves out of the way.

Balor tags in but Strowman levels him and goes for a pin but McDonagh & Carlito break the fall but Strowman takes them both with a double clothesline.

Truth tags in and runs over Judgment Day arm in arm with Strowman on the outside then chases McDonagh away from ringside.

Balor catches Truth with a missile dropkick back inside the ring then follows it up with Coup De Grace for the win.

Winners: Judgement Day

Backstage CM Punk was talking with Adam Pearce & said Punk is half the problem and he’s not medically cleared. Pearce said he would call Drew McIntyre to set up a meeting for next week to see if he’s in a place mentally to do business.

Pearce said he needed Punk to stay home. Pearce said he knows McIntyre likes to pick fights and Punk isn’t one to back down. Pearce said if it happens again, the match with McIntyre and title aspirations are out the window. Pearce told Punk to go home, pet Larry and get healthy. Punk agreed to comply.

Rey Mysterio & Zelina Vega were shown talking in a locker room as we go to a break.

After the break inside the Judgment Day clubhouse, Dominik Mysterio was playing WWE 2K24 video game when Liv Morgan said that they should work on double team moves. Morgan said Mysterio wants this as badly as she does. Mysterio said the only thing he wants badly is to beat his deadbeat dad.

Morgan claimed that’s what she meant. She said Dom needed to loosen up. Morgan shoved him down on the couch and then hopped on top of him and stretched out his leg. Damian Priest entered the room while Judgment Day poked their heads around the corner. Morgan left the room. Priest said he didn’t even want to know what that was.

Priest said Mysterio should have been done with this and added that it’s not that hard. It looks pretty hard to me Carlito said while pointing at Mysterio’s groin. Mysterio said Priest sounded like his dad. Priest said he’s starting to understand Mysterio’s dad more every week. Dom said he thought he put and end to it and would do that now.

After Mysterio left the room Balor said Priest mentioned that he wanted to tell them something. Priest said he would keep it to himself and Mysterio would find out on his own anyway.

We head over and see the VHS tape given to Michael Cole and Pat McAfee. On it Bo Dallas talks to Uncle Howdy about the rest of the Wyatt Sicks and says it’s time to set them free. He asks Uncle Howdy if he thinks that him and the rest of the Wyatt Sicks are sick, and Uncle Howdy says he does. Dallas says that if that’s the case then sick they will be.

We then head over and see Chad Gable ask Adam Pearce to do something about the Wyatt Sicks outside Pearce’s office. He doesn’t and Gable says he’ll deal with them himself. Pearce then walks into his office where Bo Dallas is waiting.

After the break we get a Damage CTRL video package aired with them talking about their 6 Woman Tag Team match. Iyo Sky said that because they lost control, tonight they would take it back.

Ilja Dragunov vs. Bron Breakker

Ilja Dragunov charges at Bron Breakker before Breakker sees him coming and catches him with a German suplex then jams his knee into Dragunov’s face.

Dragunov lands a German suplex of his own on Breakker then looks to land Constantine Special.

Breakker runs Dragunov over with a clothesline but Dragunov lands a couple of chops on him.

Breakker then connects with a powerslam on Dragunov as we go to a break.

After the break Breakker hits a spinebuster to Dragunov and fires off right hands on him.

They exchange forearms with one another before Dragunov lands a right hand on Breakker’s thigh.

He follows it up with an enzuigiri and ascends to the top rope but Breakker trips him and joins him up there. Dragunov pulls Breakker off the top rope and delivers a powerbomb.

He climbs back up to the top rope and hits a senton then charges at him.

Breakker intercepts Dragunov with a knee, then gets him up on his shoulders and connects with a gutbuster.

Breakker sends Dragunov crashing into the top turnbuckle before Dragunov looks to fly off the top rope.

Breakker moves out of the way and clotheslines Dragunov out of the ring then follows him out there and connects with a jumping knee on Breakker.

He charges at Breakker but Breakker grabs an office chair and tosses it at Dragunov causing the disqualification.

Winner By DQ: Ilja Dragunov

After the match Breakker gets Dragunov back inside the ring and stomps on him but Sami Zayn runs down to the ring and clotheslines Breakker out of the ring as officials try and separate them.

Breakker pulls Zayn out of the ring and sends him crashing into the ring post then tosses him over the announce table.

A Damian Priest video package aired. He said he didn’t ask Drew McIntyre to cash in or for CM Punk to get involved. He said he’d wait for fans to tell him which champion in recent memory has not had controversy or interference surrounding their title reign. He said there isn’t any. He said he went to war with Seth Rollins and walked out with his title.

Priest said he looks forward to the challenge from Gunther. Priest said he looked forward to walking into and out of SummerSlam as champion. He told Gunther that he would be happy to say that to his face next week.

Highlights aired of Karrion Kross attacking Kofi Kingston’s arm last week.

Michael Cole said Kingston suffered an AC joint sprain in his shoulder and could be out of action for a number of weeks.

Karrion Kross cuts a backstage promo while The Final Testament stood by. Kross said he regretted to inform everyone that Kingston would not be playing the accordion. Kross said the old guard will make way for the new, even John Cena. Kross said he always thought Xavier Woods was a hell of a talent. He said he could become his own man or he would hospitalize him like Kingston.

Highlights aired of Iyo Sky hitting Zoey Stark with a Michinoku Driver on a ladder bridge during Women’s Money In The Bank Ladder match.

6 Woman Tag Team Match
Damage CTRL (Dakota Kai, Kairi Sane & Iyo Sky) vs. Lyra Valkyria, Kayden Carter & Katana Chance

Damage CTRL wastes no time going after Kayden Carter, Katana Chance & Lyra Valkyria.

Kayden Carter hits an arm drag to Kairi Sane before Dakota Kai & Chance tag in.

Carter & Chance double team on Kai but Kai clocks Carter before Carter gets Kai up on her shoulders.

Kai escapes and lands an arm drag then Valkyria tags in and lands a dropkick on Kai then sends her crashing out of the ring.

Carter & Chance send Sane & Iyo Sky out of the ring to join Kai and fly to take down Damage CTRL as we go to a break.

After the break Chance lands a codebreaker on Kai before Sky & Valkyria tag in and Valkyria hits Sky.

She delivers an enzuigiri and a sit-out piledriver, then goes for a pin but Sky kicks out.

Sane tags in and lands a spinning backfist on Valkyria then Kai tags in and looks to land a double suplex on Valkyria. Carter saves Valkyria & Sky & Chance join their respective teammates.

Chance, Carter & Valkyria hits a triple suplex to Damage CTRL before Carter tags in.

Valkyria sends Kai crashing into the mat and Chance & Carter land Keg Stand on her.

Sane flies off the top rope to level Valkyria but Carter hits her with a kick before Carter hits a chop to Sane but Sane sends her crashing out of the ring with some help from Kai.

Kai sends Carter crashing into the ring post and Sky helps Sane fly over the top to level Chance & Valkyria on the outside. Back in the ring Sky tags in and hits Over The Moonsault to Carter for the win.

Winners: Damage CTRL

After the match, Shayna Baszler, Zoey Stark & Sonya Deville appear and blindside Damage CTRL in the ring. They beat them down and Baszler & Deville hold Sky in place as Stark lands a superkick on her. She tosses her over to Baszler where she lands a jumping knee on her. Deville then connects with Deville’s Advocate.

Cathy Kelley interviewed Rey Mysterio & Zelina Vega inside their locker room. Vega said she would be the Women’s World Champion if it wasn’t for Dominik Mysterio. She said that Dominik & Liv Morgan are a hot mess. Rey said they needed to put an end to the story and shut up Dominik & Morgan.

Jackie Redmond spoke with Deville, Baszler & Stark while Chad Gable could be seen chatting with Creed Brothers & Ivy Nile in the background. Deville said they just sent a message to the locker room about who runs the division. Stark said the other women can’t lace their boots. Deville said she has been trying to make Baszler & Stark be the killers they can be. She said what happened was a warning shot to the entire division.

Women’s Tag Team Champions The Unholy Union showed up and mocked them. Fyre said that they run the division as long as they have the Women’s Tag Team Titles.

A Gunther video package aired. Gunther questioned how he became the man whose name strikes fear. Gunther said he was not a child watching for entertainment or a fanboy who was desperate to live out a fantasy. He said he learned at a young age that the only thing that matters is winning. He said the sport lacked a powerful figure and WWE had no choice but to call his name. He spoke about choosing NXT UK as his battleground. He said he learned that he enjoyed making people miserable. He said he restored honor and prestige to this great sport. He said that’s what’s on the line at SummerSlam.

Mixed Tag Team Match
Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan & Dominik Mysterio vs. Latino World Order (Rey Mysterio & Zelina Vega)

Zelina Vega levels Live Morgan then connects with a boot on her mouth then tags in Dominik Mysterio.

Rey Mysterio gets inside the ring and Dominik fires off stomps on him in the corner.

He whips Rey into the opposite corner but Rey rains down right hands on him in the corner and lands a suplex.

Vega tags in and hits a hurricanrana to Dominik but Morgan runs over Vega and fires off forearms on her in the corner.

Vega rains down right hands on Morgan in the corner then connects with a bulldog on her and looks to charge at her.

Dominik inserts himself between Morgan & Vega but Rey accidentally sends Dominik crashing on top of Morgan.

Morgan & Dominik end up on the outside and LWO fly off the apron with a senton and a Meteora and a senton respectively to level them both as we go to a break.

After the break Dominik sits Rey on the top rope and looks to rip his mask off then drapes Rey off the top rope by his knees then fires off stomps on his midsection and fires off right hands on him.

Dominik then connects with a Michinoku Driver on Rey and charges at him before Rey catches him with a back elbow and sends Dominik crashing out of the ring.

Vega tags in and levels Morgan with a few clotheslines then follows it up with a running knee and a hurricanrana then ascends to the middle rope and hits a Meteora.

She goes for a pin but Morgan kicks out so Vega sets up for a Code Red on Morgan but Morgan escapes and lands 3 Amigos on Morgan. Morgan looks to hit ObLIVion on Vega, but Vega avoids it.

Rey & Dominik tag back in and Rey hits a hurricanrana to Dominik then lands a forearm on him.

He ascends to the top rope and hits a senton before he lands a kick on his head and a springboard moonsault. Dominik then hits 3 Amigos to Rey but Rey block him after the 1st one.

Rey then looks to dial it up for 619 but Dominik catches it then Vega dials it up for a 619 of her own and Rey follows it up with a Frog Splash off the top rope. He goes for a pin but Morgan breaks the fall.

Vega then dials it up for a 619 on Morgan, but Morgan sends her crashing into the ring post on the outside.

Morgan slides a chair into the ring as Rey & Dominik teeter on the top rope but the referee disposes of it.

While he’s looking away Morgan trips Rey opening the door for Dominik to hits a Frog Splash to Rey for the win.

Winners: Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan & Dominik Mysterio

After the match Morgan hugs Dominik but Dominik pushes her off then they share a moment but Rhea Ripley’s music hits and she makes her return. She storms down to the ring as Morgan retreats through the crowd, then slides in the ring and confronts Dominik. Dominik looks to hug Ripley but Ripley slides out of the ring and storms to the back. Dominik follows her and looks to defend himself but Ripley ignores him and continues up the ramp to close out Raw.
