Exclusive: Inside NXT UK – Eddie Dennis Details the Rise and Fall of the Brand
WrestleMobs Exclusive
Eddie Dennis, a prominent figure in the wrestling world, has had an illustrious career spanning over 16 years. Known for his time in WWE NXT UK, Dennis recently shared an insider’s perspective on the brand’s creation, growth, and eventual closure in an exclusive interview with WrestleMobs.
The Genesis of NXT UK
NXT UK was launched as a subdivision of NXT, aimed at capitalizing on the booming independent wrestling scene in the UK. Dennis, who had been juggling a successful teaching career with his passion for wrestling, saw this as a golden opportunity to pursue wrestling full-time. In 2018, he signed with WWE and became an integral part of NXT UK.
“Joining NXT UK felt like being on the ground floor of something special,” Dennis said. “It was an exciting time, filled with potential and promise. We were part of this unique vision of localized globalization, bringing the WWE brand closer to fans in different regions.”
The Highs: Building Momentum
NXT UK quickly gained traction, with regular episodes filmed in various locations and the brand’s stars performing in front of enthusiastic crowds. The roster was filled with talent from across Europe, creating a diverse and dynamic environment.
Dennis recalled, “We were filming episodes in iconic venues, and the fan response was incredible. It felt like we were on the brink of something huge, especially when we did the takeovers in Blackpool and other major cities. Sharing those moments with my friends and colleagues made it even more special.”
The Impact of the Pandemic
However, the rise of NXT UK faced significant hurdles. The COVID-19 pandemic brought the world to a standstill, and NXT UK was no exception. The brand moved from touring to filming in an empty warehouse in London, a stark contrast to the vibrant live events.
“The pandemic changed everything,” Dennis explained. “We went from performing in front of packed arenas to an empty studio. It was challenging to maintain the same level of energy and connection with the fans. But we adapted and kept pushing forward.”

Leadership Challenges
Another blow came with the health issues of Triple H, the driving force behind NXT and NXT UK. “Triple H’s vision and leadership were crucial to our growth,” Dennis noted. “His health issues and the subsequent changes in the company’s direction left us in a state of uncertainty.”
The Closure of NXT UK
In 2022, WWE announced the closure of NXT UK, leaving many talents, including Dennis, at a crossroads. Reflecting on this period, Dennis shared, “It was a difficult time. We had built something meaningful, and seeing it come to an end was heartbreaking. But I am grateful for the experiences and the opportunities it provided.”
Despite the closure, Dennis remains optimistic about the future. “NXT UK had a significant impact on the wrestling scene in Europe. It opened doors for many talents and showed that there’s a passionate fanbase here. I believe the legacy of NXT UK will continue to inspire future generations of wrestlers.”
Looking Ahead
Since his departure from WWE, Dennis has returned to the independent circuit, where he continues to thrive. His journey is a testament to his resilience and passion for wrestling.
“NXT UK was a chapter in my career that I will always cherish,” Dennis concluded. “It taught me valuable lessons and provided unforgettable memories. Now, I am focused on the future and excited for what’s to come.”
