NJPW G1 Climax Night 16 Results & Review (August 14th, 2024)

On August 14th, 2024 NJPW aired the 16th Night of G1 Climax live in Shizuoka Japan inside
Hamamatsu Arena in front of 1,607 fans & can watch the show on NJPW World.

NEVER Openweight 6 Man Tag Team Champions Boltin Oleg & Toru Yano vs Katsuya Murashima & Shoma Kato

Boltin Oleg hits a double suplex on them then a gutwrench suplex on Katsuya Murashima and a delayed suplex on Shoma Kato follow by Kamikaze for the win.

Winners: NEVER Openweight 6 Man Tag Team Champions Boltin Oleg & Toru Yano (4:08)

Bullet Club War Dogs (Strong Openweight Champion Gabe Kidd & Jake Lee) vs. Just 5 Guys (Taka Michinoku & Sanada)

Gabe Kidd & Sanada starts this match and Sanada hits a dropkick.

They brawled to the floor and into the crowd before they returned to the ring and Kidd got a near fall.

Jake Lee tags in and helped beat down Sanada before Taka Michinoku tags in and hit some kicks on Lee but he couldn’t pick him up. Lee locks in a front guillotine choke but Sanada made the save.

Lee again applied the front guillotine choke and this time Michinoku taps out.

House Of Torture (Dick Togo & Evil) vs. Shota Umino & Tomoaki Honma

House Of Torture works over Tomoaki Honma early on before Dick Togo hit a senton for a near fall.

Evil hits him with a hammer then Honma suplexed Evil and he tags in Shota Umino.

Umino hit a fisherman’s suplex on Evil for a nearfall. Togo pushed the ref.

The ref pushed Togo, causing Togo to fall head first onto Umino’s groin.

Honma hits Kokeshi on Togo then Umino immediately put Togo in an STF and Togo taps out. 

Winners By Submission: Shota Umino & Tomoaki Honma (7:10)

Los Ingobernables De Japon (IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Tetsuya Naito, Shingo Takagi & Bushi) vs. United Empire (KOPW 2024 Champion Great O Khan, Francesco Akira & Callum Newman)

Callum Newman & Francesco Akira hit stereo planchas to the floor.

In the ring Bushi hits a Rewind Kick on Great O Khan. However O Khan hits a flatliner then The Eliminator for the win.

Winners: United Empire (8:30)

Non Title Block B Match Of The 2024 G1 Climax
NEVER Openweight Champion Henare (6) vs. Hirooki Goto (8)

Goto must win or hes eliminated.

Henare hits some roundhouse kicks to the chest and a clothesline but Hirooki Goto shrugged it off.

Goto drops Henare with a clothesline then Henare hits a Berzerker Bomb for a near fall and they were both down. Henare hits a jumping knee in the corner.

Goto locks in a sleeper but he let go and hits a running Penalty Kick then GTR to the chest for a near fall.

Henare hits Rampage near fall then hits Streets Of Rage for the win.

Winner: NEVER Openweight Champion Henare (8) (12:46) (Since Goto lost he is eliminated)

Non Title Block B Match Of The 2024 G1 Climax
Global Champion David Finlay (10) vs. El Phantasmo (6)

Finlay advances with a win.

David Finlay hits a rolling elbow but El Phantasmo hit a brainbuster and they were both down.

Phantasmo hits Sudden Death for a believable near fall before Finlay hits a Buckle Bomb.

ELP hit a standing powerbomb and the CRII then hits springboard Thunder Kiss 86 for a near fall but Gedo pulled the ref to the floor.

Finlay nailed ELP with the shillelagh then hits Overkill for the win. 

Winner: Global Champion David Finlay (12) (12:30) (Finlay gets a spot in the Semi Finals)

Block B Match Of The 2024 G1 Climax
Konosuke Takeshita (8) vs. Ren Narita (10)

Winner advances.

Ren Narita hits a Guillotine flying knee strike to the throat then a top rope flying Guillotine for a near fall.

Konosuke Takeshita drops him with a forearm strike then Narita chop blocks the knee.

He set up for Double Cross but Takeshita hit a powerbomb for a near fall.

Narita again applied the leg lock before Takeshita hit a release German suplex tossing Narita across the ring.

He hits another forearm strike to put away Narita.

Winner: Konosuke Takeshita (10) (16:47)

Non Title Block B Match Of The 2024 G1 Climax
Television Champion Jeff Cobb (10) vs. Yota Tsuji (8)

Winner advances.

Yota Tsuji hits Gene Blaster for a near fall and they were both down.

They got up and traded forearm strikes and Tsuji hit a Falcon Arrow for a near fall. Tsuji hit a knee strike.

He went for Marlow Crush but Cobb avoided it and hits an F5 near fall.

Tsuji hits more knee strikes and he charged at Cobb but Cobb hits a clothesline.

Tsuji hits another Gene Blaster then hits a 3rd Gene Blaster for the win.

Winner: Yota Tsuji (10) (11:37) (He will face Takeshita in the Quarter Finals)
