Chael Sonnen, UFC legend and former opponent of Jon Jones, has now entered into a broadcasting role for the sport. Chael works the desk for UFC pre and post-shows and even works for ESPN.
Now, during a feature for ESPN, Chael gave his prediction on who he believes will win between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC 309 this Saturday, live from Madison Square Garden.
I believe that we are going to have Jon Jones win, and the reason why is, Jon is still active, he’s still involved. As a matter of fact, Jon Jones, our reigning champion, but our interim champion is going to be sitting in the very front row. In other words, Jon’s next opponent, should things go well, is already decided. Jon is prepared for that opponent and others. Stipe meanwhile, has made it very clear that he’s going to retire. Many times in sports when we got a guy one foot in and one foot out, it doesn’t go well.
Chael Sonnen is still one of the only people who think Jones is going to still fight Tom Aspinall, maybe he knows something we don’t. We’ll see after Saturday! You can see the full card for UFC 309 here.
