Ian Garry Comments On Taking Risks Against Dangerous Fighters
Someone’s 0 has got to go.
A massive fight is set to co-headline UFC 310 when undefeated 18-0 Shavkat Rahkmonov takes on 15-0 Ian Garry with a title fight on the line. Ian Garry was originally set to fight Joaquin Buckley next week. But, when Welterweight champion Belal Muhammad pulled out of fighting Shavkat due to injury, Ian Garry stepped up to possibly become number one contender.
Recently, Ian Garry sat down to speak with Daniel Cormier, where Daniel asked him about taking such dangerous fights like Buckley, who’s ranked behind him, or Shavkat, who’s undefeated with all finishes. Ian’s response was a good one. He’s a gamer.
I’m a gamer. It’s what I love to do. I’ve said this many, many times and people don’t understand that I am a kid who had a dream from Dublin, Ireland, who is living that now. I’m a man who’s done everything I said I’m going to do. I’m living the dream. I’m 15-0 undefeated. One fight away from cementing myself in an opportunity to win a world title. … that’s what dreams are made of. Now, I can sit here and I can go, right, it’s risk vs reward I fight Buckley, there’s a risk. I lose. The reward, I win, I move up the ladder. But, no title fight, right? Now I fight Shavkat, again, risk, massive risk. He’s amazing. 18-0, 18 finishes. Wow, scary! Still the same risk as fighting Joaquin Buckley or fighting anyone else. But, the fucking reward is wnat you’re here for. And I’m not scared of any man that walks this planet. Opportunities are what make life. God has gifted me a golden opportunity, many don’t see a fight against Shavkat as a golden opportunity. I cement myself as the number one contender in the world, next in line for the belt and I take out the guy that people think is the boogeyman. It’s perfect.
Kron Gracie has 5 finishes in all of his 5 victories, all by submission. Bryce Mitchell also has 9 submissions in his 16 wins. Neither man has a knockout win to their name, so a grapple heavy contest is likely.
UFC 310 kicks off tonight on ESPN+ for the prelims at 6PM ET, which the main card kicking off on Pay-Per-View at 10PM. Bodyslam will have coverage of the event.
