Natalya had been friends with Ronda Rousey as soon as she had debuted in WWE. They were seen to be best friends on television and a feud could have happened. But that idea was done away with due to Natalya’s father, Jim Neidhart passing away.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that initial plans for the heel turn were cancelled weeks ago and in light of The Anvil’s death as well.
It is reported that the belief backstage was that after her father’s passing, WWE couldn’t turn her heel anymore. So they went with Nia Jax feuding with Ronda Rousey. Natalya was supposed to turn on Ronda around this time, but that no longer happened.
We will never know if the heel turn would’ve turned out to be a good thing in Natalya’s case. After all, her turning heel in light of her father’s passing, driven by grief could’ve made for a plausible story.
