The Rumor has been killed.
Earlier, there was a report about a rumored bout between the UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira and Alexander Volkov, with Pereira moving up to heavyweight. Well, that rumored has been set aside.
MMA reporter Ariel Helwani has reported that the Heavyweight bout is false, and Alex Pereira will stay at Light-Heavyweight for now, to defend his title against the rightful challenger, Magomed Ankalaev. He also noted that for Alex to move up to heavyweight, his team believes he’d need at least six months to bulk up correctly.
Alex Pereira’s next opponent will be Magomed Ankalaev, per sources. That’s the plan. No plans of him moving to heavyweight any time soon. In fact, per his team, he’ll need at least six months to move up the way they want him to.
This is positive news for fight fans, as they immedietly pushed back on the prospect of Pereira vs. Volkov, due to the ongoing hope that Ankalaev gets the title shot that he deserves after not losing since 2018. As for when the bout will take place, that remains to be determined.
