Possibly Reason Why WWE Changed Mustafa Ali’s Name
WWE recently made the change to Mustafa Ali’s name, much the way they have done to many other Superstars in the past and shortened it to just one name as he now is known only as “Ali.”
On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio Dave Meltzer discussed the change to Mustafa Ali’s name. He commented on why WWE potentially made this change, saying that Vince McMahon might have felt that the name “Mustafa” was keeping him from getting over with fans.
“It’s like you know someone made a call. They think Mustafa will keep him from getting over probably.”
They then talked about whether or not the name change had anything to do with the Lion King, and the villain “Mufasa”.
“I don’t think Vince knows about the Lion King. I think maybe he doesn’t like the name Mustafa as a babyface I’m gonna guess. Who knows.”
The decision to change his name to just “Ali” is an interesting one for sure, however it isn’t surprising really given WWE’s track record of historically giving their Superstars one word names.
