Impact Wrestling To Begin Airing On AXS TV
News broke earlier this week that Impact Wrestling’s parent company Anthem has bought AXS TV. AXS is the home to New Japan Pro Wrestling and Women Of Wrestling.
Impact has been the butt of many jokes throughout it’s 15+ years as a company. Called by some the “cockroach of wrestling” because the company seemed to always be on the brink of closing, but always finding a way to stay alive. There hasn’t been a wrestling company that has switched time slots and TV stations like Impact in the history of wrestling. From PPV to Fox Sports to Spike TV to Destination America to Pop TV to Pursuit and now AXS.
Impact has been trying to get onto AXS for sometime now, but the former owners of AXS were not interested. Now that Anthem has purchased AXS, it appears that Impact has finally found the home they have been looking for, even if it’s because their parents purchased that home.
The hype video did not mention the day or time which Impact will be airing, only stating that it will start in October. Which means that in October there will be Raw, Smackdown, NXT, NWA, MLW, ROH, NJPW, Beyond Wrestling, AEW, WOW, House of Hardcore and Impact all airing on television or streaming weekly wrestling shows. The room is definitely crowded and it will be hard for most of the companies to find a loyal audience.
Impact, throughout it’s history has struggled to maintain a healthy audience and has never drawn more than 9,000 fans to one of their shows. It will be interesting to see if the move to a new station will help the company grow bigger than they have ever been before.
