Cleveland’s Jon Moxley comes out to address his long-time rival Le Champion Chris Jericho and their upcoming huge AEW World Championship match at Revolution. Mox wanted to beat the hell out of Jericho, but the wily veteran had a trap. The Inner Circle and some thugs came down to make the odds insurmountable but that didn’t stop the number-one contender.
The Butcher & The Blade w/Bunny, MJF & Wardlow vs. The Young Bucks
What a fun match as MJF hired his hired guns The Butcher and The Blade to take out The Young Bucks. Matt and Nick brought their high-octane offense to the nasty heels at all costs. The hired guns though, dominated the majority of the match isolating the babyfaces.
The best addition to the match, was MJF’s commentary if nobody has ever heard his episode on Talk is Jericho do yourself a favor and listen to it. He basically gives a sixty-minute in- character interview with Jericho and it’s absolutely hilarious. A nice post-match beatdown took place until Kenny Omega and Hangman Page made the save for The Bucks.
Nyla Rose vs. Big Swole
I was pleasantly surprised that this match was as good as it was. Recently, there hasn’t been much to comment on when it comes to the women’s division. Rose portrayed the role of a wounded beast while Swole was the unstoppable babyface. Swole almost put the beast away with a well-placed middle rope cutter. Rose delivered a thunderous spear followed by a Sit-down Powerbomb for the victory.
Cody vs. Kip Sabian w/Penelope Ford
Sabian came right out of the gate firing on all cylinders going right after Cody. The American Nightmare inadvertently blasted Ford which allowed Sabian to capitalize on his foe. Superbad and his girlfriend are a perfect fit.
Ford plays such a great distraction and I can see Sabian being the first mid-card champion when a title is unveiled. Cody though played everything up as the resilient babyface. The American Nightmare dropped his opponent with the Cody Cutter followed by three devastating Crossrhodes for the victory.
Doctor Britt Baker is the heel that Riho had needed to battle against. Baker blasting Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, and the Cleveland crowd gave her an immense amount of heat. She needs to win the AEW Women’s Championship at Revolution.
Scorpio Sky & Frankie Kazarian vs. The Hybrid 2
Angelico and Jack Evans definitely impressed me bringing the fight to the former tag team champions. I believe this was the second time I’ve seen them in action, and the young up-and-comers have great potential. They almost knocked off SCU but in the end, it was an SCU Later for Hybrid 2.
Main Event: Private Party & Darby Allin vs. Santana & Ortiz & Chris Jericho
There is one thing that AEW succeeds at every week, putting on a tremendous highly-intense main event match and this was no different. Private Party is always fun to watch with their insane versatility and the crispness of their execution of maneuvers. There is nobody on this planet quite like Darby Allin. He’s a fighter, he’s got grit and determination, and the crowd is fully behind him.
The Inner Circle dominated most of the match, Santana and Ortiz portray the role of thug bullies so well. Jericho has always and will continue to find the best way to draw the most heel heat. You can tell that he loves to get booed. Judas Effect was all it took for the heels to pick up the victory.
All of the members of The Inner Circle beat down the babyfaces until Mox came down with a baseball bat to even the odds. Of course, he got to gain some revenge on the goons of Le Champion while he scurried away. I’m so excited to see how this story will develop over the next few weeks!
