Fresh off his Fight Island victory over Englishman “The Gorilla” Darren Till, former Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker will return to the octagon to face “The Killa Gorilla” Jared Cannonier in what seems to be a title eliminator at UFC 254 as reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN per UFC President Dana White (via David Tees of Fightful.com).
Having lost his title to Adesanya, Whittaker returned to the octagon in Abu Dhabi with a decision win over the English former Welterwight title challenger Darren Till. This will be the first 3 round fight for “The Reaper” in over three years, his last was a TKO victory of Jacare Souza.
Cannonier comes into this eliminator riding a three fight win streak with victories over Anderson Silva, Jack Hermansson & David Branch. Being undefeated at Middleweight holds him in good stead with all three of those victories coming by way of TKO.
UFC 254 already boasts a fire main event so to add these two finishers as a co main event is sure to provide plenty of fireworks.
UFC 254 goes down on Saturday, October 24th from a location TBA & will be main evented by the Lightweight Title unification bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Justin Gaethje.
