Man Arrested On Kidnapping Charge At Home Of WWE’s Sonya Deville
A man has been charged with attempted kidnapping at the Lutz, Florida home of WWE’s Sonya Deville.
Phillip A. Thomas II, 24 of South Carolina was arrested early Sunday for attempting to kidnap a homeowner that he had never met but has stalked on social media for a number of years, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (via Tampa Bay Times)
The victim has not yet been identified but it has been confirmed that the home is owned by Daria Berenato a.k.a WWE’s Sonya Deville.
Thomas reportedly began planning the kidnap some eight months ago. The attempted kidnap has been detailed in a news release.
According to the sheriff’s office, Thomas travelled from South Carolina, specifically targeting the homeowner. Thomas parked his car at the local Idlewild Baptist Church early that night before walking to the home before cutting a hole in the patio screen and waiting there for many hours, watching and listening through the window until his target went to sleep. The homeowner saw Thomas and fled the scene by car with a guest and called the police.
Thomas has been charged with aggravated stalking, armed burglary of a dwelling, attempted armed kidnapping and criminal mischief. He is currently being held without bail.
Sheriff Chad Chronister spoke of the frightening nature of the crime in a press release:
“Our deputies are unveiling the suspect’s disturbing obsession with this homeowner who he had never met, but stalked on social media for years. It’s frightening to think of all the ways this incident could have played out had the home alarm not gone off and alerted the homeowner of an intruder.”
