Stipe Miocic Talks Life In And Out Of The Octagon

Current Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic recently sat down with Chris Van Vilet to talk about his personal life and of course, his time with the UFC. Questions from how he needs to wallpaper his house to who he wants in the MMA world were answered, here’s some of the highlights

What fight put you on the map? Made Dana White & UFC go ‘this guy could be a future champion?’

I don’t know for them but for me it was it was my second loss (overall) but my first lose against JDS (Junior Dos Santos). I looked at my coach, wife and said I could beat him tomorrow. Even though I lost it was my wife’s favorite fight, it showed just how good I could be.

Chris commented how he felt it was the Roy Nelson Fight. Miocic replied:

People starting taking notice, he (Nelson) was ranked fifth and coming off three straight first round minute knockouts. I came in and put a clinic on him

When young fighters talk to him, what kind of advice does he give them?

Don’t do it the way I do it, do it the way you’re comfortable. Training sucks but don’t get frustrated, always have fun. You gotta want it more, cause there’s someone out there who’s gonna want it more than you. You always gotta be ready for that situation

Stipe was then asked about fighting Francis N’gannou, Jon Jones or if there was someone else he wanted. After first joking about 15 years from now meeting his daughter’s boyfriend he replied:

It just depends on what the UFC wants, if you get Jon Jones it’s ok, he’s moving up, one of the greatest of all time, it’s a superfight.

Then finally the big question came around and he was asked If it could happen would you want to fight Brock Lesnar:

Yeah, I’ll fight anyone. there’s no question, no care. I will take that fight in a heartbeat. It will be an early night for me

If you’re a fight fan this interview gives you a whole new perspective about Stipe Miocic the man, not just the fighter. He talked in length about his family life and how being a father has changed him. The full interview can be seen below and is a must listen to anyone who has seen him in the Octagon.
