Michael Elgin Enters Rehab To Address Painkiller Dependency
Impact Wrestling and NJPW star Michael Elgin is to enter rehab to address his dependence on painkillers, he announced today.
In a Tweet on his official account, the former NJPW Intercontinental Champion wrote that an initial groin injury in 2015 triggered his reliance on pain medication. He explained: “At times, the pain was unbearable so I took pain killers to get me through. Over the next few years injuries piled up, but like an overly proud idiot I didn’t take any time off, and kept self-medicating to get by.”
Elgin goes on to list a series of injuries and operations, including a fractured orbital bone and knee surgery.
Elgin, 33, concluded: “Thank you for everyone who supports me, you’ve been my life line. I gave you everything I had, taking time from everyone in my life. I’ll come back better than ever. Thank you again.”
Elgin most recently competed for Impact Wrestling, but has also wrestled for Pro Wrestling Noah, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and Ring of Honor.
Bodyslam.net wishes Elgin the best in his rehabilitation.
