NJPW G1 Climax 30 – Night 13 Preview
We are now ⅔ the way through block action as A Block rolls into Osaka for the second time. It seems like a lifetime since the competition’s opening weekend which was in the same Prefectural Gymnasium. Back then we had a blank canvas, now we are moving towards the end of the competition. Who will represent A Block in the Final at Ryogoku a week on Sunday?
Yota Tsuji v Yuya Uemura
C Block is coming to a head now and Tsuji has a three point advantage in our unofficial competition. A win for Tsuji here and he goes 5 points clear so Uemura is almost in must win territory here as a defeat could be devastating in this battle of Young Lions.
Tomohiro Ishii (6pts) v Jeff Cobb (4pts)
Oh boy, what a physical start to block action! Expect no punches to be pulled as two absolute units collide. Neither can really afford a defeat here, Cobb especially. Chances are a defeat here for Cobb would eliminate him at the end of the evening. Given Ishii has beaten Cobb everytime the Olympian and the Stone Pitbull have matched up this could be a bad night for Cobb. Should be a certified banger of a match however.
Jay White (8pts) v Yujiro Takahashi (0pts)
One of the most fascinating undercurrents of this year’s G1 has been the problems within Bullet Club. Both Jay White and Evil have been taking shots at each other in backstage comments, especially since Evil’s controversial win of Kenta. Evil has insinuated that Yujiro may not be a team player tonight like White may be expecting. Is the Tokyo Pimp laying down? Will the Switchblade be facing insubordination from one of the other Japanese members of Bullet Club? This probably won’t be a match of the G1 contender but few matches will be as interesting.
Will Ospreay (8pts) v Taichi (6pts)
Ospreay has been getting more and more cocky since his return to NJPW at the same arena back at the start of the competition. Despite that he has let his in ring skills do the talking. Maybe though he will have to resort to more questionable tactics against one of Suzuki-gun’s resident gits in Taichi. This should be a great in ring match however especially with both needing the win to stay in contention at the top of A Block. Realistically, Taichi will find it tough to progress with defeat here.
Kota Ibushi (8pts) v Minoru Suzuki (6pts)
NJPW pretty boy v the maniacal King of Wrestling. This should be a cracker, especially given how both loves to smack the crap out of their opponents and take lots of punishment. Like his Suzuki-gun subordinate (allegedly, who knows now) Taichi, Suzuki really cannot afford defeat here. Expect the King to be more vicious than usual.
Kazuchika Okada (8pts) v Shingo Takagi (6pts)
