Since joining the NJPW Young Lions in the Japan Dojo, British Wrestler Gabriel Kid has had a regular column feature on NJPW1972.com, titled A Brit Abroad. On this latest edition of A Brit Abroad Gabriel Kid spoke about his 3 biggest influences, those that have inspired the young Brit in his professional career.
In the feature he opened up about the fact that there many wrestlers that have obviously inspired him prior to and during his in ring career. As there are so many he feels have influenced him, he spoke about his three biggest influences from outside of the world of professional wrestling. Stating that these are individuals that he looks up to and the guys that help motivate him all in different ways and as such he wanted to share his inspirations with everyone at home.
Akira the Don
Akira the Don is a British DJ who takes samples from motivational and lecture speeches that he then puts the over a beat track. Gabriel Kidd would note that it is some of the best music he has ever heard, highlighting the tracks “Mind Control” and “Discipline Equals Freedom” in particular.
speaking on Akira Don Gabriel Kid would say;
“What inspires me about Akira is not just within his music, but his outlook on life outside his music. There have been times I have been in situations that I didn’t know how to deal with and I would read a blog he posted or a tweet that would help solve these problems. Sometimes they are very black and white answers, sometimes you have to figure it out yourself, but either way they’ve helped me out a lot.”

Kron Gracie
The Gracie family name is that of royalty in the BJJ and MMA worlds, Kron Gracie is the son of Rickson Gracie and Grandson of Helio Gracie. Kron is an MMA practitioner who is currently contracted to the UFC after competing in the Rizin Fighting Federation, he currently holds a professional record of 5 wins and 1 loss. Kidd would note that he first came across Kron Gracie via a Youtube show called ‘Munchies’, a show that followed professional fighters and their approach to nutrition, becoming a fan of a man nicked-named Ice Cream due to his keep cool under pressure approach to both fighting and life.
Speaking on Kron Gracie Kidd would say;
“When I saw and listened to Kron’s approach about fighting, it really changed my perspective. I focus on my training and don’t think too far ahead about the fights. They are going to happen when they happen, so why would i waste energy focusing on them now, when I can fully focus on my training.”

Conor McGregor
If you don’t know who Conor McGregor is, I will assume you have been living in cave for the last few years, Conor McGregor would rise to fame as an MMA competitor for the UFC. Conor would go on to win both the Featherweight and Lightweight titles whilst under contract with the UFC even earning himself a big money fight against Floyd Mayweather. When speaking about Conor Kidd would talk about a Netflix Documentary regarding Conor and his training methods, which helped him to loose the weight Katsuyori Shibata had asked him loose. He noted that the documentary had left him feeling on top of the world, hearing the way Conor would speak of himself lit a fire under Kidd and that he now watches 15-20 minutes of the documentary everyday before training to get in right mindset.
Speaking on Conor Mcgregor and the Documentary Kidd would say;
“Through that documentary, I started to learn a lot about mindset. Everyone has days when they don’t want to do something, but it’s about whether you do it or not that will really determine if you will achieve your goals or not. He has said it many times but the reason he was able to achieve what he has was through a bulletproof mindset. I felt a huge change in my career when I started thinking and studying more about this aspect.”
