It has been no secret that the weakest point of WWE television in 2020 has been the Tag Team Division. With WWE losing teams like the Viking Raiders, the Revival, Mustache Mountain, The Usos, AOP and others, from either injury, travel restrictions or no longer being on the roster, the tag team division finds it self as the worst it’s ever been over the past decade. The division has become so bad WWE keeps the same feuds going for months or we get singles matches with two people from the same team. It gets tiring seeing Angel Garza vs Montez Ford every week or Cesaro vs Nakamura every week. However there are ways to fix the division. These are some potential ideas WWE could go down in order to fix the division.
1. Unify the Tag Belts and Merge the Divisions – With WWE only having 3 tag teams on each show the first step should be unifying the Tag Divisions. Have one set of Tag belts and let the champions float from show to show. This could present some interesting match ups for the championships instead of the same matches over and over again.
2. Hold a Dusty Classic – The Dusty classic has been a great way to display tag team wrestling when done in NXT. The The tournament has produced some absolutely classic matches and interesting pairings that just some how work. The tournament is fulled with actual tag teams and single guys being paired up. With the amount of talent on TV not getting a spot on TV, pairing them up in this tournament could be a way to get those talent on TV. Pete Dunne and Matt Riddle we’re a tag team that was formed in the tournament. The Riddle and Dunne team would become a highlight of WWE Television. This tournament could also work with the women.
3. Doing absolutely nothing– This is what WWE is more likely to do. It’s more likely WWE will just wait for The Usos, Grizzled Young Vets, and other tag teams for come back. If they go with this option then just expect the same matches every week on TV.
I understand that every idea I proposed are most likely not gonna happen. These are just ideas I think WWE should explore in fixing the Tag Division.
