New WWE Women’s Champion Crowned at Hell In A Cell 2020

For the third time in her career, Sasha Banks stepped inside for Hell in a Cell to compete for a women’s championship. This time, it was against her former best friend, and a woman she won the Women’s Tag Team Championship with on two occasions, the Smackdown Women’s Champion Bayley.

As the cliche goes, the third time was the charm. After coming up on the losing end against Charlotte Flair in 2016 and Becky Lynch in 2019, Sasha Banks overcame the odds of the year long champion and took Bayley’s place at the top of the Smackdown Women’s Champion.

The contest went twenty five plus minutes, and ended when Sasha Banks called back to her match with Bayley at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn in 2015 and locked in the Bank Statement. This time, rather than stomping Bayley’s hands, she stomped a steel chair that was around Bayley’s head, which forced Bayley to submit. This title win now makes Sasha Banks a nine time champion.

Time will tell if Sasha Banks will have any better luck with the Smackdown Women’s Championship than she has on each of the five times she held Raw’s equivalent. For now, the world can rejoice that Sasha vs Bayley has been a delightful success.
