NJPW Announces 2020 Super J-Cup Featuring Several Independent Talents
New Japan Pro Wrestling is bringing back the Super J-Cup.
After a three-year hiatus, the tournament returned in 2019, with El Phantasmo defeating Dragon Lee in the finals of the tournament. Its 2016 return was the first in seven years, but it seems like New Japan is ready to make it an annual tradition again. This year’s field features a wide variety of American talent from several promotions across the country, and the field is as follows.
El Phantasmo
Clark Connors
TJP
ACH
Blake Christian
Chris Bey
Rey Horus
Lio Rush
Phantasmo, Connors, and TJP are returning from last year’s tournament while the remainder are first time competitors. Worth noting is that NJPW has listed home promotions for each competitor and while Phantasmo and Connors are listed as NJPW talent, former NJPW regular ACH is listed as a freelancer along with TJP and Rush. Horus represents ROH, Bey represents Impact Wrestling, and Blake Christian represents GCW.
The tournament will be taking place December 12th and air live. You can watch the reveal for both tournaments below.
