Reason AEW Initially Wanted Dynamite On Tuesday Nights

AEW Dynamite has become a staple of Wednesday nights, and it has even led to a modern ratings war between Dynamite and NXT. However, if they had would have had their way in the beginning, the ratings war could be happening on a different night if it was happening at all.

AEW initially registered a trademark for Tuesday Night Dynamite, and later on registered one for Wednesday Night Dynamite, and there was a reason for the first trademark. It was revealed on Wrestling Observe Live by Bryan Alvarez that they wanted to be on Tuesdays, so Tuesday Night Dynamite could also stand for “TNT on TNT.” The tagline is catchy, but the decision to go to Wednesdays was made by WarnerMedia, and it’s the reason the show is simply called Dynamite.

“You know why it’s just called “Dynamite? They wanted Tuesday Night Dynamite. Tuesday Night Dynamite — TNT on TNT. So everyone who says ‘Oh, NXT had Wednesday and they went ahead’ — no. They wanted Tuesday Night Dynamite. TNT decided ‘oh you’re going to be on Wednesday,” so it became Wednesday Night Dynamite which is not as cool as Tuesday Night Dynamite because now it’s WNT.”

TNT also airs NBA games on Tuesday nights, and they certainly didn’t want to continuously shuffle the show around given the weekly production schedule of professional wrestling. The company does have a second show coming to television, so maybe they’ll end up on Tuesday nights after all.
