Jake Roberts Offers Sharp Criticism Of WWE’s Creative Team

Jake “The Snake” Roberts has been known for creating compelling wrestling on television for his career. The long time star has recently had a career renaissance after becoming Lance Archer’s manager on AEW television, and he’s not been kind toward the competition.

Jake recently spoke to Premier Live TV and spoke about his thoughts involving the current state of the WWE. One of his biggest criticisms stemmed from the fact that he feels the quality of WWE television suffers because much of the creative team has not been in the business themselves.

“You know, you can’t have a great product when you got people writing your television that’s never been in wrestling. I don’t get that. Where’s that thinking coming from? Oh, I know where his thinking’s at – Vince’s thinking’s that, ‘Oh, I am so freaking good that I can make chicken soup out of chicken sh*t, and I can use idiots to freaking write for me. That’s how big my product is.’ And he’s pretty much right because he’s got so much TV time, he can get over pretty much anything.”

There are writers with pro wrestling history on the creative team, but not much. Edge and Daniel Bryan are part of the team and 205 Live’s head writer is Dewey Foley, the son of Mick. Roberts does bring up a point as many writers on the creative team in the past have had backgrounds in soap operas and stand up comedy or just in Hollywood over professional wrestling.

While experience in the field of pro wrestling is not a prerequisite to getting a job on the creative team, a general knowledge of professional wrestling certainly seems to help. You can watch the interview below.
