The Success of AEW Dark
AEW Dark has become an interesting show to watch every week. Dark has a lot of functions for AEW that will help the promotion in the long and short term.
Scouting
One of the most interesting functions AEW Dark has is that of scouting wrestlers for their roster. AEW books wrestlers from the independent circuit and see how they work on their environment.
Thanks to Dark, AEW has been able to sign a lot of promising talent to their roster like: Serpentico, Will Hobbs, Abadon, Anna Jay, Alex Reynolds, John Silver, Kris Statlander, Lee Johnson, Diamante, Alan Angels and many more.
Dark is slowly becoming AEW’s version of NJPW’s Lion’s gate project or their own version of NXT basically.
More Ring Time
Another of the functions AEW Dark has it that of providing more ring time to the green talent. Wrestlers are able to gain in-ring experience in matches according to their level and without the pressure of being on national TV, so one day they can be ready to perform on Dynamite.
This in particular has been very helpful for AEW considering the pandemic we are all living and the fact AEW doesn’t run house shows.
This environment will pay big time to AEW in the long run and them cultivating home-grown talent.
Future
It will be interesting to see how the wrestlers scouted and signed by AEW evolved from here in the next couple of years. The fact AEW is already thinking in the long term is a great sign for the industry and for them.
Prospects Like Will Hobs, Lee Johnson and others have a lot of potential to become major players for AEW in the years to come.
