One of the major angles from NXT the last couple weeks has been the identity of the person behind a Ghostface mask helping Candice LeRae. On last night’s show, the assistant unmasked to reveal herself as Indi Hartwell, as previously reported. However, the payoff of this angle was supposed to happen a while ago.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed Hartwell was never supposed to be masked as her new ally, but be revealed from the beginning. The mask came about because Hartwell was forced to quarantine out of precaution.
“It was supposed to be her all along. It wasn’t the first time because she was not allowed to work the first time. That’s why they used the mask in the first place because it was supposed to be Indi Hartwell and they wanted it in the storyline to be Indi Hartwell and they had to use a mask and then bring back the mask with a different person.”
This was supposed to be a quick payoff with Hartwell being revealed immediately back at Halloween Havoc, but COVID-19 once again changed booking plans. Now LeRae has a new ally in the women’s division and will lead to a new direction for Hartwell and potential new matchups.
