AEW Changes Plans For World Title Match

AEW seems to have changed some plans for Jon Moxley, and they involve his next World Title challenger.

Moxley spoke recently about how he had to convince Tony Khan to let him have an I Quit match with Eddie Kingston, citing his feeling he knew it would work. Kingston was a replacement for Lance Archer, who had his match with Moxley initially postponed after testing positive for COVID-19.

AEW seemed to shift back to an upcoming showdown with Archer during Full Gear when it was mentioned Lance Archer was “waiting in the wings” for his shot, with a promo from Archer and Jake Roberts continuing to hint that. However, Kenny Omega has been named Moxley’s next challenger and a date of December 2nd was set for that match with mention of Archer made.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed the original plan was for Archer to face Moxley, but did not provide a reason for the change. He did, however, note that something is going on there. Tony Khan has been teasing that some of the biggest episodes of Dynamite are going to be happening between now and the end of the year with lots of surprises to come. The promotion of Omega and Moxley for the December 2nd Dynamite seems to be adding to the idea big things are coming. With Revolution not scheduled until February 27th, the AEW World Title should surely be defended between now and then by whoever ends up champion by the time Revolution comes around.
