WWE May Be Setting Up Major WrestleMania Match
Roman Reigns has a major exception in the WWE right now. While the creative team works out the big storylines for the main roster, Roman is exempt from that. This means there’s a chance for him to have his storylines worked out for the long term as well as short term.
One sign they might be doing that currently took place on SmackDown this week.
While Drew McIntyre is slated to face Randy Orton tonight, the match will have some ramifcations on Reigns. The winner of that match will face Reigns at Survivor Series, and while there’s a lot of cynicism about whether or not a title will change hands tonight, the seeds for an eventual McIntyre/Reigns match up have been planted now. Dave Meltzer talked on Wrestling Observer Radio about how WWE is looking at this as a potential big money match in the near future.
“At some point they’re going to do that match. If they don’t do it now then that tells me they’re probably going to do it at WrestleMania.”
Meltzer did add that the WWE was “going hard” with the angle for a reason. Obviously they wanted to build excitement for tonight’s match and even give fans the impression that McIntyre could beat Orton tonight on Raw. While there’s no concrete plan because WWE changes plans on the fly often, creative had no plans to do title changes prior to Survivor Series.
Fans are starting to get behind the idea of Roman Reigns against The Rock at WrestleMania, but with nothing set in stone, we never know what we might see for Reigns at WrestleMania.
