Could Anna Jay Become An AEW Champion This Week?
With the way the stories and angles went during the company’s first year, AEW put their big names in the spotlight, slowly building up new and younger talent whilst giving their titles some worth and prestige right out of the gate.
Jericho and Moxley have been world champion. SCU, Omega and Hangman, FTR and The Young Bucks have been tag champions. Rhodes and Lee were TNT champions and now the belt is held by young star Darby Allin.
The women’s world title has been down a different route, leading to a chunk of the fan base being disrespectful to the women of AEW, as there were no big names to build the division around immediately like the men had. AEW have had to build almost all of their female stars, former champions Riho and Nyla Rose were the ones to kickstart the division and current champion, Hikaru Shida, now leads the way.
Due to this division being less structured than the others, it opens up the possibilities for women, who would be considered as random contenders, to actually win the title.
With Anna Jay challenging for the title soon, I believe a short reign as champion would be acceptable and beneficial for the division as well as individuals.
Anna Jay is one of the few women in the company that has multiple stories going on; A rivalry with Brandi Rhodes, a member of the Dark Order and best friends with Tay Conti who’s questioning if she should join Anna in the Dark Order. Anna joined the Dark Order after being squashed by Abadon on an episode of Dynamite.
Jay has been built back up into a threat to her division through her involvement with the Dark Order. She’s smooth in the ring and her friendship with Tay only increases her technical potential. Seeing her as the AEW women’s world champion at her young age would be beneficial not only for herself but the company.
With Abadon suffering an injury recently, Kris Statlander still sidelined, Big Swole and Nyla Rose losing title matches recently and Britt Baker away to feud with Thunder Rosa; Now might be the best time to give someone a short title run and develop from there. I believe if you were going to put the title on Anna Jay, now is the time to do it. Have her upset Shida, win the title and hold it until Revolution. At Revolution, Shida can win it back or someone else can start to get developed.
If Jay continues with AEW over the years, she’s going to win that belt more than once. You read it here first, Jay will be a multi-time women’s champion and when better to start that than now?
Tune into the 11/25/20 edition of Dynamite to see if the “Queenslayer” will choke out the champion.
