Kenny Omega Would Like To See All Wrestling Companies Collaborate During COVID-19 Pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic has made it a strange time in professional wrestling. Many shows have been canceled, altered in different ways, or generally changed how we view and consume the sport.
Wrestlers are losing wages due to a lack of live events. A lack of live events has also caused fans to lose interest in the product, which doesn’t make matters any better. Kenny Omega sees this, hears this, and has the unorthodox idea of collaborating with other promotions to make better business. While this is nothing new, he’s not just referring to a promotion like New Japan. Omega suggests collaborating with the WWE, Ring of Honor, Impact, all promotions.
Talking to Sports Illustrated, Omega was asked about a possible partnership with New Japan when he mentioned this. Omega is definitely open to working with any and all promotions, but he feels that during this pandemic, the best thing to do would be coming together to create the best product possible.
“Now more than ever, with the entire world struggling, we could really make lemonade out of lemons by putting forth our best efforts for a collaborative effort.”
“That’s the great thing about pro wrestling. A lot of people are in this business because they love making people happy. There are a lot of us in wrestling right now that want nothing more than to make fans happy. We get lost in our own fantasy booking talking about how cool it would be to team up, and there are restrictions in the world right now, but maybe down the road.”
Obviously many hurdles are out there that would prevent such things from happening, the biggest being what would surely be Vince McMahon nixing any idea of a collaborative effort. The prospect of such a thing is quite mouth watering however, and surely fans will dream of a day where this is possible.
