Rhea Ripley Speaks On Her Lost Confidence After WrestleMania Loss
Rhea Ripley was riding high at the start of 2020. The then-newly crowned NXT Women’s Champion had been booked as a firm main eventer and even wound up being able to defend the NXT Women’s Title at WrestleMania, a first for any NXT Title.
The road after WrestleMania, however, has been a difficult one. Ripley has been put on the backburner in favor of the elevation of other talents like Shotzi Blackheart, Candice LeRae, and the ascent of Io Shirai. While Ripley hasn’t been completely buried, one could argue she’s been lost in the shuffle while still looking strong.
Rhea was a guest on Lilian Garcia’s Chasing Glory podcast, and they talked about her shuffling down the card and how it had shaken her confidence. It can be difficult in a time like this, and it’s interesting to hear it from the perspective of a star.
“I’m not really sure, it did feel like that though. I have gone through a stage where I did start losing the confidence in myself because I was just not being portrayed in the way that I was, you know? I started, like even now I’m slowly building myself back up from it. My confidence was definitely tainted a little bit which sucks because I try and like keep it up and do my best all the time. I don’t know if it was just something inside my head that just wasn’t getting the picture. I don’t know. I got a little little bit lost.”
“Right now I feel like I’m getting back on track especially doing all the things that I’ve done like building myself back up has been really, really hard. I’m not gonna lie it’s been difficult, and I’ve been lost at times, but I’ve definitely like found my track now and I’m like now getting back on it.”
Ripley opening up and being vulnerable shows even top athletes have their mental highs and lows. Ripley looks to be on the road to regaining her spot as a top star on NXT as she looks to be a key member for Shotzi Blackheart’s War Games team.
