Original Plans For Hangman Page And Kenny Omega
All sorts of things in the world of pro wrestling cause plans to change. Whether it’s injuries, crowd reaction, or even the COVID-19 pandemic, things can quickly adjust to fit new plans and needs.
One example of this as we’re learning is the heel turn of Kenny Omega. The Wrestling Observer has reported that the original idea for this storyline with the Best Bout Machine was suggested by Don Callis back when Omega and Page began their tag team. Originally, the plan was for Page to turn heel, but it was changed due to the reaction of the audience.
AEW saw how over the duo was and they decided to use it as more than just a platform to elevate Hangman Page. The pandemic wound up delaying the start of this angle as well, and we are now getting a chance to see it all play out.
Don Callis wasn’t shy to take a lot of credit for this during both Dynamite and Impact, which might be one of the most worked shoot humble brags in pro wrestling history. Meanwhile, Callis and Omega are now forces in both promotions where it seems like Kenny Omega could be preparing to challenge for the Impact World Title.
Meanwhile, it isn’t like the change of plans have damaged Page. Page continues to get over and may be considered one of the top babyfaces in the company.
