Paul Heyman has seemed synonymous with Brock Lesnar for so long, it’s easy to forget he’s managed other people in the WWE.
While having clients like Curtis Axel and Ryback were a bit of a mixed bag, Heyman experienced equal success to what he’s used to when he had his partnership with CM Punk. During their year plus as a tandem, the two were one of the hottest acts in the company, and it showed a different dynamic for Heyman as the normally silent Lesnar was replaced by one of the company’s most gifted talkers.
When speaking to Inside the Ropes about that partnership, Heyman didn’t just reveal about how much fun he had being partnered with Punk on air, but the disbelief they were actually going through it and how he was convinced they’d be fired for their on-air antics.
“I look over at him and he says ‘Can you believe they’re f***ing putting us together?’ I’m like ‘We’re both gonna be f***ing fired in the next four weeks, don’t you get it?’ And he goes ‘But the s**t we’re going to stir in four weeks, they don’t f***ing have a clue!’ I loved working with him, I loved it. I had the time of my life. We had a blast working with each other because, just like me, he had no idea what he was going to say when he went out to the ring. He was just doing it, you know, allegedly shoot promos that then get wrapped around into the storyline that we’re telling that he fervently believed in his heart that he was telling the truth.”
Heyman has had a unique relationship with each of his two main clients and he’s developing a completely different one from those two as he builds his dynamic with Roman Reigns. Considering Heyman’s tremendous skills on the microphone and his creativity, the sky is the limit for that pairing as well.
