Reason WWE Puts Matches Scheduled For PPV On Free TV – “They’ve Got No Ideas”
WWE has recently developed a habit of hyping up big matches that could be pay per view level, only to give them out on for free on television. While it makes for good television at times, it also shows a trend developing that the WWE might not be stopping for a while.
This Friday’s SmackDown features a match between The Street Profits and the team of Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode. The match was originally scheduled for TLC, but as previously reported the WWE was considering putting some of these matches on free television. It has been said in the past the WWE does this to help boost ratings for their shows, something the WWE might be doing to help make sure eyes are on their show during their one night move to FS1.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about WWE’s habit of doing this and revealed it’s not by design but instead a lack of creativity. The WWE’s creative team doesn’t have enough ideas for their weekly television program that they use these matches that are being built up for pay per view on television instead because they don’t have an idea for the show.
“It’s like whenever I talk to someone about doing this match for the pay-per-view they’re like, ‘well, it’s listed for the pay-per-view,’ but what’s gonna happen half the time — like that Street Profits match with Roode and Ziggler — they’re gonna come to TV and they’re gonna go, ‘what do we got on TV this week?’ — ‘WELL we could put this one on!’ Because they’ve got no ideas for TV.”
The lack of voices in leadership backstage continue to show with decisions like these, with Vince McMahon mostly listening to people like Bruce Prichard, who just tell him what he wants to hear. While not every decision is a popular one, it certainly seems most decisions are only being made by one person these days.
