Drew McIntyre Thinks An Injury He Suffered Derailed 3MB From The Start

Drew McIntyre may be the current WWE Champion, but he had a stint in his career where he wasn’t always the top star of the company.

For a while, McIntyre was paired with Jinder Mahal and Heath Slater to form 3MB, a trio that fans often look back on in amusement more than anything. On the newest Broken Skull Sessions with Steve Austin, McIntyre talked about his time with that trio and how it it was hamstrung from the beginning. Drew talked about how Vince Mcmahon was the one who made the call to put him and Jinder with Slater and how the formation went down backstage.

Everyone’s like maybe a Fandango, you know he’s got that quirky personality, Ambrose is quirky as hell. Maybe these are guys that might fit in with Heath there, and Vince was like no, he doesn’t think like everyone else. He’s like, Jinder, Drew. This was serious, exactly, I wanna see a different side of their personalities, see what they’ve got. He wanted to bring something out of us, so he put us with Heath. They told Jinder in the backstage area, like in a hallway or something this was the plan. He was fine with it, and from what I gather they drew straws who was gonna tell Drew, walked me into the stands way up high just in case I kicked off and beat someone’s ass. They sat me down, explained it to me, and I said great, I just wanna do something, I’ve been on Superstars for two years. I’m just looking for an opportunity. It’s not what I’m looking for, but it’s something so cool, I’ll make it work.

But my wrist is broken, it’s been broken for about six months, and they told me I need surgery. The bone’s dead, I need the Scaphoid screw and just make sure the boss knows that. I guess no one told him that, so we did a bunch of these vignettes in Stamford. Whatever his vision was, we did it all to the tee. No one let him know the heater’s got a broken wrist and as soon as we had to be on TV, I had to go get surgery the week after. I couldn’t touch anybody or be touched for six months, so this thing was dead on arrival, but it was fun as hell!

McIntyre’s surgery was much needed to avoid a long term injury, as the kind of wrist injury could have caused full loss of wrist motion if not treated properly. While all three men in the group look back fondly at the group, Drew may have a point the group couldn’t gain traction with one guy out for as long as he was.
