WWE Originally Did Not Plan On Having Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns At TLC
Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns tore the house down last night in an incredible TLC match that saw Owens back in the main event for the first time in a couple of years. It has been a long time coming for the former Universal Champion, who WWE didn’t originally plan on having in the TLC main event.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about Owens in the main event, where he talked about how the WWE simply had no other babyfaces prepared to face Reigns at the pay per view. Owens hadn’t been pushed in some time, but while they seem to have plans for Reigns for the Royal Rumble, they had nothing for the Tribal Chief at TLC.
“With Kevin Owens this month, it’s not like they had planned, I mean you can look at how Kevin Owens was booked and see that there was no plan for Kevin Owens. The problem was that they had no babyfaces on that side.”
Owens took the ball and ran with it, delivering a main event performance completely worthy of the opportunity given to him. And while it’s unknown if he took the ball and delivered to the point Vince McMahon is ready to elevate him back to the main event scene, Owens proved he’s one of the WWE’s top stars.
