WWE Sees Legends Night As An “Annual Ratings Boost”
Last night on RAW, the WWE announced they would be holding a Legends Night episode on January 4th. The first Raw of 2021 will feature the return of several Legends and Hall of Famers to Monday Night Raw including Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, and Kurt Angle.
With Raw’s ratings tanking over the last several weeks, this is easily seen as less of a long term move and more of a move that could be described as a band aid on a bullet wound. Ringside News has reported the internal idea might be much of the same.
They spoke with a tenured member of the creative team and they said that bringing legends in is an “annual ratings boost.” While Vince is counting on the legends to boost ratings, there doesn’t seem to be a plan to maintain the boost or where they go beyond there.
Their source also reiterated to them that “the creative process in this company has fallen completely apart.” It’s a difficult situation to be in right now, with AEW continuing to deliver in the ratings and more and more people finally giving up on the product.
While other legends like Beth Phoenix, Booker T, Sgt. Slaughter, Jeff Jarrett, and more will be at Legends Night, the real question will be if this even delivers the boost everyone hopes for, or if people will see through the ploy.
