Big E is set to have a very Merry Christmas.
The following is going to contain spoilers for the Christmas Day episode of SmackDown, so if you don’t want to be spoiled, please stop reading.
Last night at the SmackDown taping for Christmas Day, Big E defeated Sami Zayn in a lumberjack match to become the new Intercontinental Champion. This match was originally scheduled for the TLC pay per view that happened this past Sunday, but was pulled for that. Now we know why.
Ringside News has reported the match was rescheduled for this Christmas Day episode to provide a feel good moment for a Christmas episode and to drive the viewership for the show. SmackDown isn’t exactly the first choice someone would make for a Christmas Day viewing, so the chance to give people something to enjoy would definitely drive the ratings.
WWE also moved Daniel Bryan vs. Jey Uso from the pay per view to Friday Night’s show, but we will not spoil that episode any further.
