Sting Says He Didn’t Want To Be Inducted To WWE Hall Of Fame Because He Still Considered Himself Active

In 2016, the WWE Hall of Fame class was headlined by Sting, who had announced his retirement that night. Though Sting has remained an active competitor, it was the very reason he still wanted to compete that actually had Sting not wanting to get a Hall of Fame induction.

Sting was the guest on this week’s AEW Unrestricted podcast where he revealed that he had skepticism about being inducted because he had still considered himself an active competitor. Triple H eventually coaxed him into it, assuring him that the induction didn’t mean he was officially retired.

“I was reluctant to do it because I was still schedule to work and wrestle. I said to Triple H, ‘I’m still wrestling.’ He said, ‘yeah, we think it’s gonna be good. Just because you’re inducted doesn’t mean you’re retiring or it’s over.’ I was like, ‘Okay, I can do that.’ So I did it.”

Of course, as previously mentioned, Sting announced his retirement that night, still recovering from the neck injury that had been caused by Seth Rollins at Night of Champions 2015. Perhaps it was reconsidering the effects of the injury that had Sting announce his retirement after considering staying an active competitor when approached about his induction.

Clearly, Sting has decided to leave retirement. He is back in AEW and there is lots of talk about him competing in AEW despite his limitations. It should be interesting to watch it happen especially as it seems like they’re building toward a showdown with Team Taz.
