WWE seemingly called an audible for the TLC pay per view by substituting Charlotte Flair for Lana. Giving an injury angle to Lana and removing her from the match, it gave them an opportunity to replace her with Flair as Asuka’s tag team partner on their way to becoming the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. A storyline like that certainly seems like it was set well in advance, but was it?
A report by Fightful Select says not really. They spoke with several people in the WWE and they stressed Charlotte’s return was “not in the cards or considered” when it came time to build this storyline involving Lana and Nia Jax.
While it was expected Flair would return in the “fall or winter,” she had never been factored into these plans. In fact, “plenty of members” of the roster were left in the dark about her return. While they made the decision to pull Lana when they knew Flair was returning, she wasn’t originally factored into the plans.
