The Warlord Remembers How Fast Vince McMahon Signed Him And The Barbarian To Contracts

WWF can put things together rather quickly when they want, and it seems like they had the desire to bring in a legendary tag team quickly several years ago.

The Warlord was one half of the old tag team The Powers Of Pain in the 80s, and Warlord talked about how they landed in the WWE with SportsKeeda. He revealed that The Barbarian and him had no idea WWE was planning on offering them a contract when they did. He talked about how they got a call from then-WWF official Grizzly Adams who asked them to come to a meeting.

He went on to talk about the experience, revealing they had quite a bit of well known people at the meeting they eventually went to that led to their signing.

“It’s a little bit of a story. Actually, my partner Barbarian got a call one night from Grizzly Adams who was behind the scenes with WWF (WWE) at that time. They call us on the Thursday night, and Barbarian gave me a phone call at my house and said ‘Terry, listen. WWF would like us to come to Atlanta tomorrow’… So we get to the airport the next morning, we have tickets waiting for us, and we fly to Atlanta.”

“We get there, there’s a limo waiting. Takes us to a really nice hotel close to the airport. Gives us a key, we go up to the room, open the room, who’s sitting there? Pat Patterson, who was the booker, Hulk Hogan and Vince McMahon. Which… Wow! This was amazing, you know?”

“We sat down with them. They went through the whole spiel with the look and that stuff, you know. At that time my partner, he really didn’t talk that much. And he just looks at them and goes, ‘When would you like us to start?’ I was like, Barb, we’ve got this thing coming up with the NWA. [They said], ‘We want you to start Monday.’ This was a Friday. I’m like, Monday… That quick?! But hey, if Barb wants to do it, we do it.”

The WWE worked quickly to steal them away from the NWA and Vince McMahon was clearly interested in bringing them in to add to a tag team division that was stacked at the time with Demolition, The Hart Foundation, the Rougeaus, and many others that were doing a fantastic job. And while the company never pushed them to the top of the division, they were always near the top as faces or as heels. You can watch the interview below.
